Affiliate Statement and a Caveat

First off, a little caveat: within my articles you will find affiliate links, meaning if you buy them, I get a small commission. Your cost is not affected. In addition, I am an Amazon Associate and I earn from qualifying purchases on Amazon.

And yes, if I say that I recommend a product here, it means I truly believe it is a good product. I refuse to recommend any product that I have not researched and believe to be a good value.

Even better, I provide you with a very clear picture of the product, it’s use, and the probable value.

Earning your trust is important to me. I run this website myself and the commissions and donations help support the site.

Sound reasonable and fair enough? Let’s continue to the article.

Cannoli with Red Sprinkles

These delicious Italian cannoli are one of my favorite things to eat. I love that creamy ricotta filling paired with the crispy fried shell. You can add candied fruit, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips and sprinkles to the filling, but either way, it’s going to be great.

To be fair,  Cannoli with Red Sprinkles is a classic cannoli recipe dressed up with colorful sprinkles for Valentine’s Day. If you’re making these at any other time of the year (or you’re not into colorful sprinkles), then just omit the sprinkles.  The chocolate chips are optional as well, but I personally like the bit of texture they add to the cannoli filling.  Plus, chocolate tastes good.

PRO TIPS FOR THIS RECIPE

Let me share with you some pro tips for this recipe. These all tips will make your Cannoli more delicious and melted with your mouth!

  • Measure your flour correctly! Adding too much flour to the recipe is the most common mistake. The best, and easiest way to measure flour is by using a scale.
  • The dough needs rest time or it will be quite stretchy and tough so try to give it a full hour.
  • Once you’ve drained excess water from the ricotta the filling is basically foolproof. Add sugar to taste then go wild using any flavoring combinations you enjoy.
  • You can store the shells in an airtight container for up to two days before filling. Once they’re filled you have about an hour until they soften up.
  • Don’t be overly ambitious when frying, you can do 2-3 at a time instead of big batches which will drop the temperature of your oil.
