What Are Carob Chips?

Carob chips are a popular substitute for chocolate in many vegan and allergen-friendly recipes. These chips are made from the pod of a carob tree, native to the Mediterranean region and cultivated in many other parts of the world, including the United States.   The carob pod is ground into a fine powder, combined with various natural sweeteners to make carob chips. These chips have a similar taste and texture to chocolate chips, but they are free from caffeine, theobromine, and other compounds found in chocolate that can be toxic to dogs.

While carob chips may not be as widely known as chocolate chips, they have impressive health benefits. For one, carob is rich in antioxidants and contains high amounts of fiber, which can aid digestion and regulate blood sugar levels.   So, next time you’re whipping up some homemade treats for your pups, consider using carob chips as a safe and delicious alternative to chocolate. Your furry friends will thank you for it!
