Few things are as mouth-wateringly delicious as a freshly baked garlic knot. The buttery, flaky dough, infused with the heady scent of garlic, is enough to make anyone’s taste buds stand up and take notice. But what really sets garlic knots apart is the way they’re made. Rather than simply being rolled into a ball and baked, garlic knots are formed by taking a small piece of dough and tying it into a knot. This extra step results in a knot that is slightly different in shape from traditional rolls, and gives the garlic knots a distinctive look that is sure to impress your friends and family.

Buttery Garlic Knots: Buttery, Garlicy, and Delicious!

Have you ever had garlic knots so good that they melt in your mouth? If not, you’re missing out! Buttery garlic knots are soft, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The key to making these knots is all in the dough. A traditional garlic knot uses pizza dough that is high in gluten. This gives the knots a chewy texture and allows them to rise well. To make the dough even more delicious, add some butter and garlic to it. Once the dough has been kneaded, let it rise for about an hour. Then, shape it into small balls and tie each one into a knot. Brush the knots with more butter and garlic, then bake them until they’re golden brown. Serve hot and enjoy!

What makes these Buttery, Garlicy, and Delicious?

Soft, fluffy, and buttery on the inside with a crispy exterior – garlic knots are a delicious garlic-infused twist on the classic bread knot. But how does one make these delectable morsels of carbohydrates so flavorful? And how do they get that wonderful crispy-yet-chewy texture?

The key to any good garlic knot is, of course, the garlic. To get that intense garlic flavor, fresh garlic is essential. First, the garlic is peeled and minced. Then, it’s added to melted butter and mixed together until well combined. To ensure that the garlic knots are evenly flavored, the butter mixture is brushed onto the knots before they’re baked. As the knots bake in the oven, the buttery garlic flavor seeps into the dough, infusing every bite with garlicky goodness.

In addition to the garlic, another key ingredient in these knots is Parmesan cheese. The cheese not only adds a nice depth of flavor, but also helps to create that wonderful crispy exterior. By sprinkling Parmesan cheese onto the knots before baking, you create a cheesy crust that gets nice and golden brown in the oven. Yum!

So there you have it!! Three simple ingredients come together to create an irresistible snack. Soft, fluffy, and infused with the flavors of butter and garlic, these knots are sure to leave you wanting more. So next time you’re in the mood for something savory and delicious, give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Ingredients

Let's gather the ingredients!

Dough

  • 1 ⅓ cups water lukewarm
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ tsp kosher salt
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 7 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 tbsp parsley fresh, chopped

Instructions

Let's Begin!

    Dough

    • In a large mixing bowl, Whisk the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar then cover and allow to bloom.
    • Add the olive oil, salt, and half of the flour. Mix with a wooden spoon, then add remaining flour. knead until smooth.
    • After kneading, the dough should still feel a little soft. Poke it with your finger, if it slowly bounces back, your dough is ready to rise. If not, keep kneading.
    • Lightly grease a large bowl with oil. Then place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat all sides in the oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature.
    • When the dough is ready, punch it down to release the air. Using floured hands on a lightly floured work surface, shape the dough into a 16×5 inch log.
    • Using a very sharp knife or bench scraper, slice into 16 1-inch strips. Roll each strip into 8 inch ropes. Then tie each dough into knots.
    • Arrange the knots on 2 parchment paper lined baking sheets.
    • Lightly cover the shaped knots and let them rest for at least 30 minutes and up to 45 minutes. They will slightly puff up during this time, producing softer rolls.
    • Preheat oven to 400°F.

    Topping

    • In a small pan, melt the butter then add garlic, Italian seasoning, and salt. Ideally, we don't need to cook the garlic thoroughly, just to extract the flavors.
    • Brush the butter on the knots. Reserve some of the topping for when the knots come out of the oven.
    • Bake the knots for about 20-23 minutes or until golden brown on top.
    • Remove from the oven and brush the warm knots with remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and parsley.
    • Serve warm, and enjoy with family and friends!
