Baked Jelly-Filled Donuts is a delicious and classic treat that never goes out of style. But what makes these treats even better is that they are baked, not fried, making them a healthier alternative to traditional donuts. Whether enjoyed as a midday snack, a sweet breakfast treat, or simply as a dessert, these donuts are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. So go ahead, and indulge in a guilt-free treat with these delectable baked jelly-filled donuts.
Fried Donuts VS Baked Donuts
Donuts have always been a popular treat, but when it comes to health, it’s hard to justify indulging in a fried donut. However, the debate rages on with the emergence of baked donuts, which have been touted as a healthier alternative. While both versions share similarities in look and taste, there are some key differences to consider.
Fried donuts have a crispy exterior with a soft, doughy interior, while baked donuts have a slightly denser texture. But beyond that, the biggest distinction lies in the nutritional value. Fried donuts are high in fat, calories, and cholesterol, while baked donuts can curb those concerns with significantly lower amounts. So, when it comes to making a sensible decision, baked donuts might just be the way to have your favorite snack in a healthy way!

Baked Jelly-Filled Donuts
Ingredients
Let's gather the ingredients!
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 2½ tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- ⅔ cups milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted, divided
- 1 large egg beaten
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup strawberry jam
Instructions
Let's Begin!
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Add milk, 1 tbsp of melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Stir well to combine.
- Cover with plastic wrap, and let the dough rest at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Resting helps the dough build gluten strength naturally, which makes the dough become less sticky and easier to knead.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. If the dough is too sticky to handle, apply some more flour to your hands and dough. Cover the dough with a large bowl upside down and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Knead the dough for another 5 minutes until the dough ball is smooth and supple. A well-kneaded dough is smooth and can hold its shape.
- Transfer the kneaded dough ball back to the bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise for 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out with a rolling pin to an approximately ½-inch thickness. Cut out circles using a 2½-inch round cookie cutter. You should yield 12-13 donuts.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle a little flour on the donuts and cover the baking sheet with a damp towel and let it rest for final proofing for 30 minutes, or until the oven is ready.
Let's Bake!
- Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts are lightly golden in color. Check occasionally to make sure the donuts don’t get too brown, especially toward the end.
- Place sugar into a shallow dish. Brush the donuts with the remaining tablespoon of melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven and lightly coat them with sugar.
- Fill a pastry bag fitted with a round tip with strawberry jam. Use a knife to make a deep slit on one side of each donut. Place the pastry tip into the slit and slowly pipe about 2 teaspoons of jam into each donut.
- Serve and enjoy with family and friends!
